Cemetery Days

Philadelphia is full of wonderful sites with amazing history. I am going to introduce you to one spot that is less traveled by tourists, Laurel Hill Cemetery. You might think I am crazy for suggesting such a place to visit but Laurel Hill is rich in history, has amazing sites because it sits along the Schuylkill River and it is the second largest rural cemetery (or garden cemetery) in the US, making this one of the most beautiful and peaceful places in Philadelphia.

A tiny bit of the history:
Rich in culture and the peacefulness, one can walk around for hours and hours learning about individuals that helped shape our nation and now call Laurel Hill home. Laurel Hill Cemetery was founded in 1836 and became a National Historic Landmark in 1998. Laurel Hill contains more than 33,000 monuments and mausoleums. Many of Philadelphia's most distinguished families along with many Revolutionary War figures, 42 Civil war generals and many others are buried here today.
